Vanessa is entering her seventh-year coaching club and is thrilled to return to Excel. Volleyball has been a part of her life since she was eight years old. She played volleyball at Dumas high school up until college at the University of North Texas. She decided to take an academic scholarship and play volleyball for the club team. After four years of playing she coached the UNT women’s club team for two years.
Coach V has coached junior club for six years, ages 11-17, at Victory Volleyball Club, Excel Volleyball Club, and Amarillo Elite Volleyball Club. She believes in building the whole athlete, so they are successful on and off the court. Sports play such a big role in building character and who these athletes will be in the future, so being a small piece in that is humbling. She is excited to continue to help young girls understand the game of volleyball and learn the important values of team, spirit, and sportsmanship by focusing on the mental, physical, and emotional development of young athletes.
After graduating with a degree in psychology at UNT, Coach V found her passion in speech therapy while working at an outpatient pediatric clinic and decided to go back to school to earn a degree in communication disorders from UNT and is currently finishing up her master’s degree in communication disorders at West Texas A&M University. Communication is key.
Coach V is married to a former volleyball player and coach going on 7 years and has 2 dogs named Tucker and Harvey.
